J.J. Jansen – Carolina Panthers LS

J.J. Jansen is currently the longest-tenured player on the roster. He has been Mr. Consistent every single season and has played all 192 games he’s been part of the Carolina Panthers throughout his time in the league.

Unfortunately for Jansen, the Panthers may have drafted his replacement. The team selected Alabama long snapper Thomas Fletcher at No. 222 overall, which came as a big surprise to everybody, including the player.

Fletcher inked his rookie deal for the next four years. So it’s clear the Panthers have some big plans for the rookie moving forward.

Jansen did re-sign to a one-year deal earlier this offseason. But the veteran must show he can still do his job at the level he’s demonstrated on a consistent basis over a prolonged period of time.

This will be an interesting battle to monitor as training camp goes on. The Panthers typically keep just one long snapper on the roster, and it’s unlikely Fletcher would make it past waivers if Carolina went with Jansen as their preferred option.

Jansen must turn heads his way and make sure people do not overlook him. This is the first significant challenge he’s had for his spot in quite some time, so rising to the occasion will be pivotal.
