Carolina Panthers might not meet the asking price

The Carolina Panthers have a big decision to make.

Risk their future for Deshaun Watson right now.

Or jeopardize their chances of securing the quarterback entirely.

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the Houston Texans are looking for five high-end draft picks and two prominent starters to make a deal. Considering Watson’s aforementioned legal predicament, this seems unrealistic at best and especially considering they’ve now lost some leverage by making it known they’re willing to part ways with the former first-round pick.

Those in power have now decided that Watson is a problem not worth fighting for. Little is expected of the Texans in 2021, so they should be in a prime position to select a top quarterback prospect from the college ranks next spring.

That being said, the Panthers should be wary about giving up this sort of capital for Watson at this time. If the player had no complications to speak of, it would be a no-brainer.

But that is simply not the case.

Carolina would need to be completely convinced Watson is going to come out of his current situation with a clean bill of health, so to speak. However, there is simply no way of knowing for sure, and considering the reported compensation, it represents a substantial gamble, to put it mildly.
