Although the Carolina Panthers brought in some significant reinforcements on their defensive front this offseason, it would be a surprise if Marquis Haynes didn’t carve out a role for himself once again.

The former Ole Miss star recorded four sacks, four tackles for loss, five quarterback hits, two fumble recoveries, 10 pressures, and one fumble recovery from a career-high 37 percent of the team’s defensive snaps in 2020.

Phil Snow now knows he can depend on Haynes getting the job done when it matters most. This was always going to be half the battle when working with Carolina’s new coaching staff.

Haynes has a lot riding on the 2021 season from a personal perspective. The player is heading into the final year of his deal and needs to make further strides to convince those in power he’s worthy of a long-term commitment.

Carolina’s defensive front is full of individuals who’ll command plenty of attention. Haynes should get plenty of space to work when he’s on the field, so making the most of almost every rep is of crucial importance.

If Haynes can capitalize on this, then it’s going to be another strong tool for Snow to call upon throughout the campaign.
