Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey remains the best player at the position, something that was reflected in his 2021 Madden rating.

There was no Madden 99 club for Christian McCaffrey in 2021. Understandable when one considers the running back turned out in just three games for the Carolina Panthers last season.

However, the makers of the iconic video game still think he’s the NFL’s best player at the position.

McCaffrey came in with a ranking of 97 out of a possible 99. This put him atop the running back pile as he gets set to return to the form of old when competitive action begins once again.

This was a contentious decision with fans across the league, who felt someone like Derrick Henry of the Tennessee Titans or even Dalvin Cook from the Minnesota Vikings should have been higher.

A case of out of sight, out of mind where McCaffrey is concerned.

Taking off the rose-tinted glasses for a second, McCaffrey does have some questions to answer during the upcoming campaign. But these have nothing to do with the elite skill set at his disposal.

Carolina needs the former first-round pick fit and firing on all cylinders to progress in 2021. McCaffrey reverting back to the iron man we saw over his first three years in the league will make a massive difference, with any further complications on the health front sure to come with skepticism surrounding the Panthers’ decision to give him such a big-money deal last spring.

It’s debatable, obviously. But here are three reasons why Madden got it right by making McCaffrey the best back in the league.
