5 big observations from practice Day 3 of Panthers training camp
By Dean Jones
The Jaycee Horn vs. Robby Anderson battle
One of the most entertaining parts of Day 3 according to multiple reports was watching experienced wide receiver Robby Anderson matched up against No. 8 overall selection Jaycee Horn.
The Carolina Panthers are keen to put plenty on the rookie in his first camp experience, which should be a tremendous asset to call upon when competitive action gets underway.
Anderson gave Horn all he could handle when they were matched up against one another. But the South Carolina product more than held his own and even got his first interception of camp when Sam Darnold underthrew D.J. Moore.
This is absolutely invaluable for Horn’s early development.
Going up against two highly productive receivers in Moore and Anderson consistently gives him a better indication of what to expect when things get a little more heated. But it’s clear the corner was looking to impress working prominently with the first-team unit throughout Day 3.
How Horn transitions when the pads go on next week will be another critical part of camp for the player. The Panthers should match him up early and often against Anderson once again, who is a supreme deep threat that also gets open quickly over short to intermediate routes.
It’s early days. But this might be the shutdown cornerback Carolina has been looking for.
