What are some key observations from Day 5 of training camp practice for the Carolina Panthers ahead of the 2021 season?

After a day off to rest and recuperate, the Carolina Panthers were back on the field at Wofford College in Spartanburg for Day 5 of training camp. Matt Rhule was far from happy with the way his roster finished Saturday’s session in front of more than 6,000 fans, claiming they were a little too ramped up and focused more on the occasion than getting better on the field.

This was another steep learning curve for a young Panthers team of which more is expected next season. They’ll be getting another stern test of their credentials on Tuesday, with the pads set to go on for the first time as physicality moves forward a notch following the bedding-in period.

The coaching staff will find out plenty about their players in the days and weeks to come. Carolina has all the right pieces in place to surprise their preseason projections, but it’s absolutely essential they hit the ground running with some opportunities to build momentum early in the campaign.

Without further ado, here are five big observations from Day 5 of Panthers training camp practice.

A noticeable excitement

Although there was still a solid focus on practice, it’s evident that the Panthers had half an eye on what’s to come on Tuesday. Getting the pads on and participating in contract drills is something every NFL player lives for, so expect the intensity to be right there from the word go tomorrow.

This is probably welcomed by Matt Rhule at this point. The coach is renowned for wanting his practices at the highest tempo possible, something that was evident throughout both his time in college and his first preparation period in Carolina.

Business is about to pick up, ladies and gentlemen. Something that everyone at practice on Day 5 was all-too-aware of with mistakes aplenty during the session.
