5 key observations from practice Day 5 at Panthers training camp

Jaycee Horn catches the eye
As if the excitement surrounding Jaycee Horn wasn’t big enough.
The cornerback had himself a day with two interceptions in 7-on-7 drills, which is the latest indication that the Carolina Panthers could have something special on their hands with the No. 8 overall selection.
Matt Rhule indicated following the practice that Horn is holding way too much. But this is all part of the learning process and hopefully, the South Carolina product can figure all this out before it’s time to take the field Week 1 against the New York Jets.
Horn has some huge expectations on his young shoulders. Rookie corners do tend to go through some growing pains, so expecting too much out of the player initially could lead to some unfair criticism coming in his direction.
Taking things one day at a time is essential with Horn and every other rookie on the Panthers.
The margin for error is incredibly slim when it comes to covering on the outside. Every wideout across the league no doubt looks forward to coming up against first-year players at the position and Horn will be no different.
That being said, opposing quarterbacks might not wait long before avoiding Horn’s side of the field at all costs with a smooth transition to the pros.
