Sean Chandler – Carolina Panthers S

There wasn’t much in the way of expectations on Sean Chandler making the starting lineup following his arrival in free agency. He is another of Matt Rhule’s former college players who’ve been brought to the Carolina Panthers since taking over as head coach, which has been a collection of hits and misses to date.

Chandler had his work cut out coming despite the lack of depth behind projected starting duo Jeremy Chinn and Juston Burris at the safety position. This task has been made even greater by the production of Sam Franklin and Myles Hartsfield during the early portion of camp.

Both players received praise from Rhule for the improvements made this offseason and hinted they could see more playing time with further development both at practice and throughout the upcoming campaign.

This is bad news for the likes of Chandler, who now appears right on the brink and needs to turn things around pretty drastically to force his way into Carolina’s plans.

Being familiar with the coaching staff will only get Chandler so far. If he cannot make the most of this with production when the pads go on and in preseason games, then the veteran is a primary candidate to be cut at some stage.
