5 defensive free agents for the Carolina Panthers’ wish-list in 2022

It’s a fluid situation between Marcus Maye and the New York Jets. The talented safety was placed on the franchise tag and didn’t get the long-term security he was looking for before the deadline, which is something the Carolina Panthers managed to do at the last minute regarding their stud right tackle Taylor Moton.
This is a player that many teams across the league will be monitoring closely. Maye is a fantastic competitor who has made some real strides since entering the league as a 2017 second-round pick out of Florida.
The Panthers have one potential stud at the position in Jeremy Chinn, who made the biggest of impressions as a rookie and looks to be a star in the making with further development this offseason and beyond.
Acquiring Maye wouldn’t be cheap. But a safety tandem of him and Chinn is a mouth-watering proposition and something that could propel Carolina to even greater things moving forward.
Making a big splash in free agency is something the Panthers didn’t really accomplish this spring. Financial complications relating to COVID-19 played a part in this, but a strong campaign next time around might see some more prominent free agents look closely in their direction if they appear on the cusp of something special.
