5 key observations from practice Day 6 at Panthers training camp

A better day for Sam Darnold
After a couple of rough practices for quarterback Sam Darnold, his performance on Tuesday was much better.
Darnold was running for his life plenty during 11-on-11 drills. But his decision-making seemed on point more often than not, which was pleasing.
There were a few nice throws, too. Although the lasting image late in practice was seeing the signal-caller run a lap for being responsible for a false start.
Coming against a quality defensive front is only going to help Darnold ahead of competitive action. There is no margin for error where the former USC star is concerned, so although it’s a trial by fire throughout camp, it will serve him well in the grand scheme of things.
If the Carolina Panthers find the right solution on their offensive line, then Darnold has a tremendous opportunity to succeed. The weapons are there, but making the most out of them consistently is the big test.
Matt Rhule commented on Darnold after practice, stating he’s happy with what the player has shown so far from a progression standpoint at camp. There’s some hard work to come for Darnold, but the solid platform has been set to what will hopefully become the reigniting of his career in Carolina.
