It doesn’t appear likely that the Carolina Panthers will make a big splash at the safety position. The coaching staff feels confident in Jeremy Chinn and Juston Burris becoming a productive tandem, with J.T. Ibe pretty low down the depth chart before this unfortunate turn of events.

If the Panthers opt to bring in someone fighting for an NFL future, then Ladarius Wiley might be an option worth considering. The former Vanderbilt star has found life difficult carving a role for himself at the next level so far, failing to make the Tennessee Titans roster after 2019 training camp.

This was followed by a brief stint on the Seattle Seahawks after impressing during a HUB Football Camp, only for the team to cut him in June.

What comes next for Wiley is unclear. He has good size and strength for a backend player, but teams are obviously not convinced about his potential when push comes to shove.

That being said, the Panthers might end up taking a look at him. Especially with options slim at the safety position even before Ibe’s early departure.

Scott Fitterer is churning out the bottom of Carolina’s roster plenty to examine multiple players that could end up playing a role. There would be no harm in bringing Wiley in, but just how much he could contribute is another matter.
