5 major Sam Darnold observations from Week 2 of Panthers training camp

Sam Darnold improved when the pads came on
There was a change in Sam Darnold when the pads came on. This obviously brought about an increased sense of excitement and anticipation from everyone associated with the Carolina Panthers and if the first few days are any indication, it’s also raised the quarterback’s game considerably.
Darnold was superb during practices from Tuesday to Friday, demonstrating the sort of decision-making that left plenty of reasons to be encouraged about what he could add to the team when competitive action begins.
It’s clear that footwork has been a big factor in Darnold’s progress so far. Quarterbacks coach Sean Ryan stated as much at the start of camp, with the player’s pocket presence and conviction on his throws especially pleasing during Week 2.
This is a solid base for Darnold ahead of whatever reps come his way during the preseason. Scrimmages against the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens should also be a stern test of his credentials and a measuring stick to just how much more needs to be done.
Darnold wasted little time in making his mark in pads. Something that’s come across really well and raised confidence in the process.
As stated previously, it is still early. But there were some definite signs of growth from Darnold once things got a little more serious at practice.
