Trenton Cannon – Carolina Panthers RB

There didn’t appear much hope surrounding the fortunes of Trenton Cannon heading into training camp. The Carolina Panthers didn’t exactly make him a focal point in their offense even when both Christian McCaffrey and Mike Davis were out of action, with the acquisition of fourth-round pick Chuba Hubbard seemingly another nail in the veteran’s coffin.

However, all hope might not be lost where Cannon is concerned.

The Panthers are keen to get Cannon more involved judging by what’s transpired during camp so far. Most notably, the player is getting plenty of work with the wide receivers in addition to his backfield responsibilities, making him a lively outsider to make the 53-man roster when it’s all said and done.

Cannon needs to put this new momentum to good use during preseason games, which could make all the difference regarding his short-term aspirations with the franchise.

Considering the player’s outlook at the start of camp, this is a far better spot to be in than most – including the player himself – probably anticipated.

Whether the Panthers will end up slotting Cannon behind McCaffrey and Hubbard on the depth chart is still up in the air. But his chances have dramatically improved over the last couple of weeks.
