One surprise player to make the Panthers roster at every position
By Dean Jones
Kenny Robinson – Carolina Panthers S
It wasn’t the start to Kenny Robinson’s NFL career the player or the Carolina Panthers had in mind. The fifth-round pick didn’t do enough to earn a roster spot initially, but he was brought back onto the practice squad and was activated for nine games, playing six snaps on defense and 128 on special teams.
Robinson is getting another chance to make his presence felt this summer. Safety is one of the positional groups that lack any real quality depth, with the likes of Sam Franklin, Jalen Julius, Myles Hartsfield, and recent arrival Doug Middleton also vying for a roster spot.
The former XFL star has made a solid if not spectacular start to camp. Robinson’s coverage ability still needs some work, but he seems to have added some muscle during the offseason that could work to his advantage.
To say Robinson has his work cut out would be an understatement. He must put the lessons learned last season to good use, with solid production in preseason games also pivotal to his roster hopes.
Robinson making the roster might be a long shot. But the opportunity is there and stranger things have happened in Carolina of late.
