It might be expected for a team’s first-round draft pick to perform well. But with cornerbacks, it sometimes takes a year or two to adjust to the NFL level and that just hasn’t been the case for Jaycee Horn.

In his first three weeks practicing as a member of the Carolina Panthers, Horn has proven why he was the first defensive player taken in this year’s draft and why he could be one of the anchors of the defense for a long time to come.

Horn hasn’t been perfect but he’s seemed to hold his own against veteran Donte Jackson in position battles. The South Carolina product has also deflected a few passes against Sam Darnold while playing on the first team during 11-on-11.

"“Just playing ball. I didn’t really have no special feeling. I’m out there to make plays, and that’s my job, and that’s what I try to do.”"

Horn is a starter on Carolina’s first unofficial depth chart and while that was expected, poor performance at training camp might’ve delayed that somewhat.

You can still expect Horn to have common rookie mistakes – which is to be expected regarding first-year players at the position – but he’s looking like the real deal so far this offseason.
