5 big observations from first Carolina Panthers scrimmage at Colts

Carolina Panthers WR C.J. Saunders catches the eye
One of the pleasant surprises to emerge from training camp so far has been the production of C.J. Saunders. The former Ohio State team captain was a late arrival to the Carolina Panthers this offseason, but it’s evident that the player is keen to make up for some lost time.
Saunders is a player to monitor closely in the preseason. He has caught everything thrown his way over the last fortnight and this trend continued against the Indianapolis Colts to further boost the player’s stock.
Another thing working in Saunders’ favor is his ability to help on special teams. His speed has really come across and providing he can make a difference when things get a little more competitive in warmups, his name might be one of the more surprising ones to secure a roster spot.
There is always someone that comes from nowhere. Few gave Saunders any hope of establishing himself in Carolina – especially considering how much they’re churning out the bottom-end of their roster – but things look far more promising for the wideout at this juncture than almost everybody anticipated.
Simply put, Saunders could not be doing much more to stake a claim. Something he deserves an enormous amount of credit for.
