5 bold predictions for the Panthers at Colts in preseason Week 1
By Brian Lane
Carolina Panthers win 17-10
This is purely from a Carolina Panthers perspective, but there are too many unknowns on several open spots on defense. That makes for some opportunities for many players such as Kenny Robinson, Sam Franklin, or Keith Taylor Jr. to make a play that could have big ramifications for the team and their own aspirations.
Coupled with the fact the Indianapolis Colts will be trotting out two quarterbacks with little to no experience taking NFL snaps, the Panthers should be able to pin their ears back and be just as aggressive as has been reported early on in training camp.
These are the games reserves need and have to shine in.
The rotation on the defensive line and secondary is not set in stone. So plenty of opportunities are there for the taking with a number of Carolina’s roster bubble players.
Also, I give the Panthers reserve skill position players a leg up in this contest with the likes of Terrace Marshall Jr., Shi Smith, Chuba Hubbard, and Tommy Tremble likely to receive increased action.
It will be a tight game with plenty of mistakes made after so long away from the gridiron. But the Panthers are in a good position to get their preseason schedule off on the right foot ahead of next week’s test against the Baltimore Ravens.
