5 major Sam Darnold observations from Week 3 of Panthers training camp

Sam Darnold’s arm strength is where it needs to be
Although there are other areas of Sam Darnold’s game that need obvious work, the Carolina Panthers can be safe in the knowledge his arm strength is right where it needs to be.
This is something that Teddy Bridgewater simply didn’t possess last time around. If it continues into the regular season, Joe Brady’s playbook should open up as a result.
As Joseph Person of The Athletic put it, Darnold throws a “beautiful deep ball”.
And the Panthers have the weapons to make the most of this necessary physical attribute.
We’ve seen some exciting glimpses of this throughout Week 3 of training camp. Darnold was out of his comfort zone in two scrimmages against the Indianapolis Colts, but he still managed to come up with some memorable highlights that only whet the appetite further heading into the season.
The more familiar Darnold becomes with his receivers, the better he will be. It’s all about building confidence that was shattered in New York, which the coaching staff seems to be doing well all things considered.
Darnold cannot be afraid to take risks. Making the right decisions is also crucial, but there should be someone open on almost every play given the talent around him in Carolina’s exceptional passing attack.
