Which Carolina Panthers players could be among the first round of cuts when the roster gets trimmed to 85 on Tuesday?

It’s almost time for the Carolina Panthers to decide which players aren’t coming through with them on the 53-man roster in 2021. With one preseason game at the Indianapolis Colts now in the books, those in power within the organization will come together as league rules state options must be trimmed to 85 by Tuesday, August 17.

The Panthers got a good opportunity to see their fringe players in action after they rested their first-team unit on Sunday. Who showed out or failed to deliver on their promise might have some pretty big ramifications for those around the roster bubble in the not-too-distant future.

This is the unfortunate part of the business.

Not every player makes it. But for those who escape these cuts, it’s a chance to stake a further claim in pursuit of avoiding a similar fate on August 24 and 31.

With this in mind, here are five Panthers players who could be some of the early roster releases in the coming days.

Aaron Monteiro – Carolina Panthers OL

It might work in Aaron Monteiro’s favor that he’s been around the set-up last year and also became a member of the practice squad. But at the same time, his relative lack of involvement is a strong indicator of what the coaching staff thinks of his ability to make a contribution moving forward.

Carolina could decide to take their chances with some individuals with more upside. The offensive line remains an area of grave concern, but it appears as if the Monteiro is pretty far down the pecking order with the other options available.

Only time will tell, obviously. But things appear bleak for Monteiro from the outside looking in.
