P.J. Walker is running away with the Carolina Panthers QB2 role

It doesn’t appear as if the backup quarterback battle will be especially close judging by what we saw at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday.

P.J. Walker looked like a commanding presence under center throughout the first half, demonstrating quality mobility in the pocket and assurance in his throws that resulted in some notable plays throughout the first two quarters.

The XFL MVP candidate was probably in pole position before the warmup game. But this all-but confirms he’ll be playing second fiddle to Sam Darnold during the 2021 season.

Will Grier was working with those primarily on the roster bubble. He was also done absolutely no favors by the protection in front of him.

That being said, Grier threw for just 31 yards from six successful completions and was sacked once. Not exactly the best way to mark your first real action since the player’s rookie season in 2019.

Simply put, Walker just offers a little more. He is agile and unafraid to get out and make things happen when things aren’t developing as expected.

Both players should see some reps over the next two games, although we might also have Darnold back in the fold next Saturday against the Baltimore Ravens.
