Derek Stingley Jr. – LSU

Replacing one former Tiger with another? Don’t rule it out.

Derek Stingley Jr. is projected to be the best cornerback entering the 2022 NFL Draft. Although much will depend on how the player gets on at LSU this season.

There is a lot to like about the skills Stingley brings to the table. His athleticism and aggressiveness have stood out considerably, with his growth last season in difficult circumstances something else that no doubt caught the eye of league scouts.

This would certainly be a cheaper option than extending Donte Jackson. But much would depend on whether the Carolina Panthers are willing to allocate another first-round selection on a cornerback for the second straight year.

Carolina might not even have the chance to bring Stingley on board. He’s expected to be a top-10 selection barring any substantial setback, which is where the Panthers don’t want to be picking when it’s all said and done.

There is plenty of football to be played between now and when the time arrives for Carolina to take its next batch of college recruits. Stingley has all the makings of a top prospect, so he’ll be someone worth watching closely during the upcoming campaign.
