It promises to be another rollercoaster ride for the Carolina Panthers regarding the left tackle position next season. Russell Okung wasn’t brought back and the team seems content to go with the likes of Trenton Scott, Cam Erving, and Greg Little heading into the new campaign.

Not exactly the sort of options that inspire confidence. Although there is also the option of moving stud right tackle Taylor Moton over to the blindside if the coaching staff feels it will benefit the team and their new quarterback Sam Darnold.

Whichever way they go down, the Panthers must address their left tackle issue as a top priority in 2022. Having a stable presence at arguably the second most important position on offense is something Carolina hasn’t had since Jordan Gross retired, which is eight years ago and counting.

Terron Armstead might be in line for a bumper new deal with the New Orleans Saints. But if he somehow slips through the net, this would be a sensational coup for the Panthers from an NFC South rival.

Simply put, Armstead is one of the best edge protectors in the business. The former third-round pick played 857 snaps in 2020, conceding four penalties and giving up three sacks to earn a phenomenal 86.3 grade from Pro Football Focus.

It could be cheaper to go down the draft route for a long-term solution. Armstead’s situation with the Saints is worth monitoring, though.
