5 Panthers players facing a make-or-break second preseason game

Will Grier – Carolina Panthers QB
If Will Grier was hoping to start proving doubters wrong about his ability, the quarterback wasn’t exactly put in the best position by the Carolina Panthers in the second half at the Indianapolis Colts. Offensive coordinator Joe Brady seemed reluctant to throw the ball in the second half, with the protection in front of the 2019 third-round pick also leaving a lot to be desired for the most part.
This is something Matt Rhule is keen to change when Grier takes the field against the Ravens. The West Virginia product was clearly on a short leash in preseason Week 1, but that won’t be the case judging by the head coach’s comments this week.
"“No matter what happens, I wanna see Will play more this week. Have a chance to throw the ball a little more this week. I think when he was in there he did well. And he’s been good. So I’d like to give him more of an opportunity.”"
If this scenario comes to fruition, it’s absolutely pivotal Grier makes the most out of this chance.
He might not get another one.
P.J. Walker is the clear frontrunner to win the primary backup job behind Sam Darnold in 2021. However, Grier hasn’t given up the fight just yet and enjoyed some nice moments during joint practices with the Ravens on Wednesday and Thursday.
Grier might be on the outside looking in without a solid performance this weekend. If the Panthers go with two quarterbacks, then it could see his time with the organization also end abruptly with release or potential trade.
