4 pros and cons to the Panthers potentially trading for Andre Dillard

Carolina Panthers would be papering over a big crack
If the Carolina Panthers managed to strike a deal for Andre Dillard, there’s no guarantee it would bring the necessary improvements. The left tackle wasn’t guaranteed to start for the Philadelphia Eagles even before this injury setback, so it’s a real stab in the dark considering his poor production since entering the league.
There isn’t a great deal to go off. Dillard played 339 snaps during his rookie campaign in 2019, giving up four sacks and conceding one penalty on his way to a modest 59.6 grade from Pro Football Focus.
Not playing any football last year hurt his chances of progression. Things seem to be taking a similar turn this offseason which has done nothing to dispel the notion Dillard is already past the point of no return.
If this trade were to happen, it would simply be papering over what’s become a big crack and something which continues to frustrate the team’s fanbase. Especially considering the Eagles are reportedly holding out for some substantial compensation for a player they traded up to acquire not so long ago.
Considering the reported interest in Dillard, it puts the Panthers in a difficult position. They might be content to see what Cam Erving can do in a new system, but the player might not be available for much longer if the franchise waits around.
