5 Panthers players to watch closely in preseason game vs. Ravens

Will Grier – Carolina Panthers QB
While Sam Darnold is locked in atop the depth chart at quarterback, the battle for QB2 is hotting up. For the second season in a row, P.J. Walker and Will Grier have fought it out to be the primary backup, which went to the former XFL MVP candidate in 2020 behind Teddy Bridgewater more often than not.
Things haven’t gone well for Grier since he was a surprise draft pick by former general manager Marty Hurney. The hometown boy was taken in the third round out of West Virginia but it was immediately noted during training camp that summer that he wasn’t ready for NFL football.
Despite this, Grier saw playing time in the last two games of the 2019 season due to injuries, throwing for 228 passing yards and four interceptions – including a pick-six.
Walker was given the nod in Indy last week impressing, going 10-21 with 161 yards and a touchdown to rookie tight end Tommy Tremble.
Grier saw playing time in the second half, going 6-10 for 31 yards. The signal-caller was hindered slightly playing with a weaker unit than Walker and by some drops from his receivers.
However, at 26 years old, Grier is really at the last chance saloon and running out of time to establish himself with the Carolina Panthers.
