3 winners and 3 losers from Carolina Panthers second preseason game

Joey Slye – Carolina Panthers K
Kicker Joey Slye might not appear on this loser’s list much longer if he keeps performing this way because he won’t be on the team anymore.
Slye missed a 37-yard field goal in the first quarter, but it was the second straight game where he’s swerved an attempt that should have gone through the uprights.
Last week, Slye missed a long field goal and extra point while being shaky on another effort. So it’s clear that something is amiss with the former Virginia Tech star.
There seems to be no doubt that the Carolina Panthers will bring in some kicker competition for the third-year player this week. Although it probably should have happened a lot sooner than this considering the player’s inconsistencies throughout the previous campaign.
Following the game, head coach Matt Rhule didn’t hold back, saying Slye needs to get over the hump and that he isn’t producing at the level they want him to. But no significant challenge for his job this offseason has obviously led to complacency.
With last year’s struggles still fresh in Carolina fans’ minds, the time is ticking for Slye. Whether he can regroup and put everything together when it matters most next week at Bank of America Stadium could determine his future on the Panthers.
