5 Carolina Panthers players on the chopping block ahead of second cuts
By Dean Jones
Walter Palmore – Carolina Panthers DT
Considering that Walter Palmore was on the Carolina Panthers for a few short days before their preseason Week 2 game against the Baltimore Ravens, he managed to hold his own more often than not during his time on the field.
However, there is no room for sentiment when it comes to forming a competitive NFL roster, so he might be looking for a new home once the second round of cuts is confirmed.
Palmore is a former teammate of quarterback P.J. Walker from their XFL days and was a member of the Dallas Cowboys practice squad in 2020. The undrafted free agent out of Missouri has found life difficult carving a role for himself in the pros so far and considering the alternative options available to the Panthers at defensive tackle, it’s unlikely he’ll be anything more than an offseason body.
Releasing Palmore is a realistic option the Panthers should consider. He hasn’t been around that long, so it would give the coaching staff a chance to closely examine someone else who’s caught the eye a little more over an extended period of time.
This is all part of the NFL’s ruthless business and nothing new to Palmore. He registered two tackles in the second half at Bank of America Stadium, but struggles in run defense were noticeable once the first and second-team units called it a night.
