20. 26. 3. 87. Final

Who were the unsung heroes from the Carolina Panthers’ second preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens at Bank of America Stadium?

Saturday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens was another real eye-opener for the Carolina Panthers as preparations gather pace for the 2021 season. The starters saw extremely limited time on the field in the first quarter, leaving the second and third units with perhaps their final opportunity to showcase what they might be able to bring onto the roster in the coming months.

There were some good and a lot of inconsistencies. Something that wasn’t exactly unexpected regarding some members of the current depth chart who won’t be around much longer.

However, the same red-zone problems, inconsistent kicking from Joey Slye, and a lack of third-down efficiency on both sides of the football need to be resolved at the earliest possible opportunity in pursuit of avoiding complications when the regular season gets underway.

Without further ado, here are five unsung heroes from the Panthers‘ second preseason game.

Joseph Charlton – Carolina Panthers P

Although he was probably used more than the Panthers would like, Joseph Charlton’s performance was highly encouraging. The former undrafted free agent made a solid impression as a rookie in 2020 and looks to be continuing this momentum heading into his second year with the team.

Charlton generated a 44.8 yards per punt average from four attempts. He landed one kick inside the 20-yard line and his longest was recorded at 57 yards.

There are some doubts as to whether Joey Slye can become consistent enough at the other kicking position. But it doesn’t appear the Panthers have too much to worry about where Charlton is concerned.
