Carolina Panthers CB1

There’s no questioning how important both Donte Jackson and Jaycee Horn are to the Carolina Panthers in 2021. The cornerback room suffered some real complications in the immediate aftermath of James Bradberry’s departure in free agency to the New York Giants, but there’s a real sense of belief they can be far more impactful this time around.

It’s been interesting to see both Jackson and Horn working as a tandem throughout training camp and joint practices. Both players have a swagger about them that’s a joy to watch, which should make for a pretty exciting duo throughout the campaign.

That being said, there is also a keen battle for CB1 going on that shouldn’t be ignored. Something that won’t be decided until Jackson and Horn see meaningful reps in Carolina’s final preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Jackson has the experience and certainly looked like a shutdown cornerback down the stretch in 2020. However, there is an alpha mentality surrounding Horn that could lead to the South Carolina product taking on the main threat in the passing game on a consistent basis.

This is a nice problem to have. One that the Panthers haven’t had in quite some time.

Couple this with the introduction of former Pro Bowler A.J. Bouye once he serves out his suspension and cornerback could – and should – be an area of strength.
