Trenton Cannon – Carolina Panthers RB/WR

Considering Trenton Cannon’s lack of involvement last season and his aspirations heading into training camp, there appears to be some real momentum being generated by the versatile offensive weapon over training camp.

The Carolina Panthers moved Cannon away from his usual running back responsibilities, instead opting to slot him with the wide receivers throughout the majority of his time at Wofford College.

This is something the player relished, coming up with some memorable highlights that no doubt caught the attention of Matt Rhule and others who’ll be responsible for putting a competitive roster together.

Whether this will be enough for Cannon to make the team is unclear.

However, the Panthers love players who can slot in at a moment’s notice and potentially make a difference.

Cannon is also a special teams returner with solid production – something else that cannot be ignored regarding the player.

Agreeing to and excelling as a wideout could end up with a spot in the running back room behind Christian McCaffrey and Chuba Hubbard. Especially considering Rodney Smith and Reggie Bonnafon haven’t been on the field much over the last fortnight.

This is a nice problem to have for Carolina. But making the right call where Cannon and others are concerned is of critical importance.
