D.J. Moore – Carolina Panthers WR

I thought about going with the defense here as the entire unit dominated, but wide receiver D.J. Moore just had a really good night for only playing in the first half.

Robby Anderson and Terrace Marshall Jr. were the ones to haul in the two passing touchdowns but Moore, who is probably up next to get a contract extension, caught six balls from Sam Darnold for 48 yards, including a long of 18 yards.

Three of Moore’s grabs were on the first offensive drive of the game. Even leading to legendary former Carolina Panthers receiver Steve Smith Sr. on the TV broadcast call the 2018 first-round selection his “spirit animal”.

Moore’s solid showing helped Darnold’s night and got the tone of the offense flowing right out of the gates. Although Pittsburgh’s second string cannot be classed as elite by any stretch of the imagination, this was a solid platform from which to build heading into the regular season.

Much has been made of Moore’s lack of consistent quarterback play since arriving in Carolina. His numbers in the face of such complications could mean there’s further greatness to come providing the Maryland product remains on the same page as Darnold throughout the campaign.

Honorable mention: The defense, Spencer Brown, Chuba Hubbard, Tommy Tremble.
