Although the Carolina Panthers have their starting tandem locked up, there is fierce competition for places behind them on the depth chart. One of the more difficult riddles for the decision-makers to solve before Tuesday’s cut deadline.

Jeremy Chinn will be utilized all over the field as a do-it-all defender with such dynamic traits should. Juston Burris is also sure to benefit from having the former second-round pick out of Southern Illinois alongside him heading into a contract year.

What comes after that remains something of a mystery.

Sam Franklin saw some work with the first unit during training camp and is a lock to make it, with Sean Chandler’s exceptional production during drills and in warmup games ensuring a serious discussion needs to be had regarding his status.

Much will depend on whether Carolina takes four or five safeties onto the roster. If they decide to go with five, then it appears to be a straight fight between Kenny Robinson and Myles Hartsfield for the other spot.

In truth, this could go either way. But Robinson has brought his game on considerably this offseason and might just get the nod ever so slightly over Hartsfield, who is versatile and has done well when called upon.
