Which teams could try and scoop up quarterback Will Grier off the waiver wire after he was released by the Carolina Panthers?

The experiment lasted less than three years but the Carolina Panthers cut 2019 third-round quarterback Will Grier, giving the backup job to P.J. Walker ahead of the new season.

At 26 years old, Grier is a little bit older for a third-year quarterback. But he still showed improvement every season in his small amount of playing time for the Panthers.

The Charlotte native and former West Virginia quarterback still didn’t live up to expectations, and obviously didn’t show enough during practices to impress the new Carolina front office and coaching staff.

There was also some luck not being on Grier’s side that led to this decision. A year after he was drafted when Cam Newton was released, the Panthers signed Teddy Bridgewater and Walker, making the quarterback room even more crowded.

This year, they handed the keys to Sam Darnold.

While Grier could be put on the practice squad, it might be the best thing if a team claims him off waivers or he signs somewhere in need of a backup for him to try and get his career going.

Grier only played in two regular-season games for Carolina, throwing for 228 passing yards and four interceptions without a passing touchdown. However, this preseason he looked solid while playing with the starters and had an impressive rushing score in the final game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Here is a look at four potential teams that could claim or sign Grier.
