Will Grier could join the Washington Football Team

Looking at the roster, the Washington Football Team doesn’t need another quarterback, but former Panthers general manager Marty Hurney and head coach Ron Rivera, are both now with the organization and were the key decision-makers in drafting Will Grier in 2019.

Ironically, Washington also currently has former Panthers quarterbacks Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Allen on the roster along with Ryan Fitzpatrick. A collection of misfits that have a lot on their plate reading into the new season.

If Hurney and Rivera still have strong loyalty for Grier, they could decide to cut either Heinicke or Allen and have Grier step in as a potential backup for Fitzpatrick. A big gamble but one they’ll no doubt discuss before it’s time to put in a waiver wire claim.

Heinicke hasn’t looked bad and had a strong playoff game last season. But Grier’s ceiling is still higher.

Allen is coming off a broken ankle and might not have as much mobility. Plus he didn’t exactly shine when on the field after his mini-win streak in 2019.

This is unlikely but it definitely can’t be ruled out considering the history between Grier and the Washington front office and coaching staff. Whether this amount to anything is another matter entirely.
