What are some things to know about defensive end Darryl Johnson, who was acquired in yet another trade by the Carolina Panthers this week?

The Carolina Panthers scooped up another defensive piece just before the 53-man roster deadline with the acquisition of Darryl Johnson from the Buffalo Bills. General manager Scott Fitterer’s fourth trade in the last two weeks.

This represents another strong indicator that the Panthers aren’t prepared to sit on their hands in the pursuit of building a championship contender. Fitterer has been incredibly active in terms of recruitment since arriving from the Seattle Seahawks, giving the organization a real sense of purpose that’s perhaps been lacking under previous regimes.

Johnson certainly fits the mold when it comes to the attributes Carolina seeks in any new player. He is physically imposing and athletic in equal measure, something that will only add to a stacked defensive front that’s expected to make great strides in 2021.

There promises to be plenty more activity to come this week with further cuts expected as the Panthers comply with NFL roster regulations. The prospect of one or two joining the franchise via the waiver wire cannot be ruled out, either.

Carolina is looking to make more noise this time around. Matt Rhule and his staff now boast a year of experience and it’s hard to look at their options on both sides of the ball and think progression is not a distinct possibility.

Just how much Johnson will contribute remains to be seen. But it’s another intriguing addition nonetheless.
