Adrian Clayborn – DE/OLB

Adrian Clayborn’s best seasons are behind him. At this point, the veteran can only hope to sign somewhere in a relief role. The Carolina Panthers have their defensive line cemented it seems when to comes to who will start heading into the season and their depth was also bolstered by trading for Darryl Johnson from the Buffalo Bills.

While the Panthers have a solid pair of edge rushers, their depth at the position is questionable despite Johnson’s arrival. Adding Clayborn would provide Carolina both needed depth and a player who in small quantities can still cause havoc in the backfield.

Clayborn would be a complimentary piece to Carolina’s defense. A pass-rushing weapon they could use sparingly as needed.

It is unlikely Clayborn has many offers considering the number of pass rushers who hit free agency this past summer. With more surely to arrive when the final cuts across the league are confirmed.

For Carolina, this wouldn’t be a signing that moves the needle. But it is a move that throughout a 17-game season is certainly beneficial.

Clayborn’s never going to hit the heights of old, but he still has the ability to find his way to the quarterback a few times this season. There is nowhere better for him to do that than in Carolina.
