It appears as if the Carolina Panthers are looking at the possibility of going with a full-back on their roster in 2021.

Rookie tight end Tommy Tremble could also be utilized in an H-back role on occasions despite showing promise in the passing game during the preseason. They also switched Giovanni Ricci to the position, primarily to find an avenue for him to make the roster thanks to his ability to impact proceedings on special teams.

However, if Carolina wants a more stereotypical full-back in 2021, a familiar face became available on Tuesday.

Alex Armah was waived by the New Orleans Saints during final cuts. The former West Georgia star spent the first four seasons of his career in Carolina before deciding to take his chances elsewhere in free agency this spring.

At least from the outside looking in, this is a win-win for all parties.

But the Panthers have clearly put a strong emphasis on finding depth guys that can play special teams this offseason.

Armah would certainly provide effective blocking out of the backfield. Something that would aid Christian McCaffrey as he looks to hit the ground running after returning to full health.

He is also familiar with the scheme and what’s expected. So it’s unlikely Armah would need very long to acclimatize.
