One didn’t have to look far at the safety production in 2020 to indicate that changes were on the way this offseason. As it turned out, only depth chart piece Sean Chandler ended up being the new face in this area of the roster.

The Carolina Panthers have an ace up their sleeve. After a starring rookie year as an outside linebacker, Jeremy Chinn will now move to the backend and nobody will be happier about this than veteran and projected partner, Juston Burris.

Having such a dynamic playmaker with elite athleticism and instincts in equal measure is only going to help. Even though there are some real concerns surrounding Burris and whether he returns to the form we witnessed from the former Cleveland Brown early last season.

As stated previously, there aren’t many holes to pick at on Carolina’s defense. So if opposing teams identify Burris as a potential weak link, they’ll try and exploit this at every possible opportunity.

However, if you take out the production he displayed after returning from a rib injury and also factor in Chinn’s presence alongside him, then it might see some surprising performances from the duo.

Should this scenario come to fruition, it could be the missing link behind Phil Snow’s unit become one of the league’s most dominant.
