The cornerback room became an ongoing source of frustration for the Carolina Panthers last season. Phil Snow’s defense had some significant trouble getting off the field on third down and if the same problems come about during the upcoming campaign, it could hamper the team’s development when push comes to shove.

However, judging by the options available to the Panthers, that might be a thing of the past.

Carolina strengthened this area of the field considerably this offseason, which began by picking up former Pro Bowler A.J. Bouye in free agency.

Although Bouye is suspended for the first two games of the campaign, his role as a slot corner could bring a turnaround for a player that was considered one of the best in the business during his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Panthers also selected Jaycee Horn at No. 8 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. His physicality and athleticism really caught the eye during the preparation period, with the South Carolina product bringing a swagger and alpha mentality that’s been sorely missing at the position in recent years.

If Donte Jackson can show the form displayed at the end of 2020 and stay injury-free, this will be a highly productive duo capable of great things. The potential to cause increased havoc in opposing backfields should also help, which will be something to monitor extremely closely.
