5 shining stars from the Carolina Panthers 2021 offseason
By Dean Jones
Brian Burns – Carolina Panthers DE
Although there was plenty of focus on the young guys and new recruits this offseason, those associated with the Carolina Panthers were keeping an eye on those already on the roster and their potential for further growth in 2021.
Brian Burns has displayed all the right characteristics to suggest a phenomenal campaign might be in the offing. The defensive end has shown out on the field and is emerging as someone others are looking to for inspiration when it comes to the crunch.
The Panthers struck gold when they took Burns in the first round during the 2019 NFL Draft. His explosiveness has always been off the charts, but there is an added discipline to the Florida State product’s technique that makes him the complete package.
Not only will Burns make plays. But he should also draw enough attention from opposing protection schemes to free up space for others to do damage.
Burns was extremely unfortunate not to make the Pro Bowl last season. If further strides are made from a production standpoint this time around, then he’ll leave no doubt as to his standing within the organization and across the league.
There is an incredible amount of anticipation regarding Burns and the numbers he could put up next season. He’s one of the best young edge rushers around and the Panthers and incredibly fortunate to have him.
