Jaycee Horn – Carolina Panthers CB

Although there will always be a sense of regret regarding the No. 8 overall selection if Sam Darnold flops and Justin Fields thrives on the Chicago Bears, the Carolina Panthers have a player of exceptional promise on their hands in Jaycee Horn.

The cornerback has a swagger and mentality that’s been sorely missing from Carolina’s secondary in recent years. Something the team hasn’t really had since the decision to let Josh Norman walk after ahead of 2016 free agency.

Rookie corners go through some complications during their transition no matter where they are drafted. But judging by Horn’s skill set and alpha demeanor, this should be kept to a minimum.

The South Carolina product made a lasting impression in the team’s last preseason game, locking down Chase Claypool and coming up with a couple of big plays. All very encouraging ahead of his opening campaign in a professional environment.

There is something different about Horn. That much is obvious.

His size, footwork, and aggressive approach should assist the Panthers secondary – an area that couldn’t enable the organization to get off the field consistently on third-down in 2020.

Horn’s production is going to be one of the biggest things to keep an eye on in 2021. If he reaches or even exceeds expectations, then the Panthers will no doubt have a star on their hands.
