5 sneaky threats for the Carolina Panthers to worry about vs. NY Jets
By Dean Jones
Tyler Kroft – TE
Zach Wilson is going to need a security blanket across the middle from one of the tight ends at his disposal. There should be some considerable pressure coming his way at the Carolina Panthers and considering his lack of NFL experience, the potential for turnovers is there for all to see.
Things didn’t go according to plan for Chris Herndon in 2020. He was projected to be a breakout star thanks to his exciting skill set, but 287 and three touchdowns from 31 receptions was not exactly stellar production from the player.
The New York Jets made a shrewd move to bring in Tyler Kroft in free agency. Although the veteran was a depth chart piece on the Buffalo Bills, his dependability on short routes and in the red zone is something that could be of use.
This might be an area where the Jets look to exploit in Week 1. The Panthers won’t have A.J. Bouye available for the first two games of the season due to suspension, so someone with far less experience will be manning the slot coverage responsibilities until the former Pro Bowler is ready to return.
Kroft is certainly capable of making a difference. But whether he can generate enough in the way of targets is the big question nobody really knows the answer to at this stage.
