5 NY Jets players the Carolina Panthers must keep quiet in Week 1
By Dean Jones
Corey Davis – WR
The New York Jets missed the services of Robby Anderson in 2020. Their weapons in the passing game left a lot to be desired following his free-agent move to the Carolina Panthers, which brought about some career numbers for the player en route to forming a dynamic partnership with D.J. Moore in the process.
With plenty of salary-cap space at their disposal, the Jets got themselves a top target for quarterback Zach Wilson in the form of Corey Davis from the Tennessee Titans.
Despite the presence of A.J. Brown and Tennessee’s run-first offense led by Derrick Henry, there was a lot to like about Davis’ big-play potential that saw him fall just 16 yards shy of the 1,000-yard receiving milestone.
The Jets now have a better core of wideouts that Carolina must take seriously. Davis appears to be their No. 1 option and the task will fall onto either Donte Jackson or first-round pick Jaycee Horn to keep him quiet at all costs.
Generating pressure on Wilson would also be highly beneficial. So the Panthers need to be at their best to cope with a much-improved New York offense in their season opener as Matt Rhule looks to gain the all-important first win of the season to boost their chances of progression.
