There were bigger needs at No. 59 overall for the Carolina Panthers during the 2021 NFL Draft. The left tackle position remains one of great frustration, after all.
However, it’s clear that they have a potential star on their hands in Terrace Marshall Jr.
The former LSU standout didn’t feature much in rookie minicamp as he worked his way back to fitness. Marshall was keen to make up for this lost time, putting in the sort of production in training camp and preseason games that’s seen his hype train reach incredible speeds as a result.
It’s hard to envisage a situation where Marshall doesn’t make his presence felt in 2021.
The Panthers gave him a big vote of confidence by releasing David Moore when they acquired running back Royce Freeman off waivers, meaning the second-rounder will occupy the primary role behind stud duo D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson.
Expecting Marshall to have the sort of season former Tigers’ teammate Justin Jefferson put together for the Minnesota Vikings in 2020 might be pushing things ever so slightly.
However, if the wideout can make the most of the targets that come his way, outstanding production should follow.
Carolina’s offensive coordinator Joe Brady knows exactly how to get the best out of Marshall. The player’s physical presence in the red zone is also something that might come with a few touchdowns to open his career.
