4 final thoughts ahead of Carolina Panthers vs. NY Jets in Week 1
By Dean Jones
Just another game for Carolina Panthers QB Sam Darnold?
Sam Darnold came out and said all the right things this week ahead of taking on his former team. He had every chance to throw the previous regime under the bus. Instead, the signal-caller put the blame on himself despite the obvious failings of those around him at MetLife Stadium.
Further proof that Darnold is maturing. Something that’s been evident throughout his first offseason with the Carolina Panthers.
The time for delivering is now.
Darnold won’t get a better chance to make a splash, that’s for sure.
If Darnold made a strong first impression against an under-strength Pittsburgh Steelers in the first half of the team’s final preseason game, then he needs to be even better against the New York Jets.
A team that knows him better than anybody.
Both Darnold and Zach Wilson have been keen to play the occasion down somewhat this week. But the added incentive for success is there for all to see where the former USC man is concerned.
Keeping his emotions in check, getting the football out quickly, and taking advantage of some clear mismatches on the outside is key for Darnold. If he can do this, then a Week 1 win won’t be far behind.
