Carolina Panthers Game Today: Panthers vs Jets injury report, schedule, live Stream, TV channel and betting preview for Week 1 NFL game
By Dean Jones
Gameday is finally here for the Carolina Panthers as they welcome the New York Jets to Bank of America Stadium for a crucial Week 1 matchup.
We made it.
Carolina Panthers gameday is officially here for the first time during the 2021 season.
Matt Rhule’s men have a fantastic chance to get their campaign off on a positive note at home to the New York Jets, who are missing some key players and went through a substantial rebuild this offseason after finally removing Adam Gase as head coach and replacing him with Robert Saleh.
This game has some notable storylines, which obviously center on quarterback Sam Darnold making his competitive Panthers debut against the team that shipped him to Carolina for three draft selections earlier this year.
A good start is absolutely crucial for the Panthers. They have some winnable games over the first six weeks before things get tougher, with the Jets coming off a season that almost landed them the No. 1 overall selection before two meaningless wins down the stretch.
Carolina Panthers vs. Jets injury report in Week 1
The following Panthers players have been ruled out for today’s game against the Jets:
- Shi Smith (WR) – Shoulder
- John Miller (OG) – Reserve/COVID-19 list
Other than that, it’s a clean bill of health for an exciting young team. Alex Erickson was added to the 53-man roster and will return kicks and punts during the contest.
As for the Jets, stud tackle Mekhi Becton doesn’t carry an injury designation for the contest after seemingly recovering from a concussion in time. New York has one missing and two players with their statuses in doubt.
- Sharrod Neasman (S) – Out (Hamstring)
- Keelan Cole (WR) – Questionable (Knee)
- La’Mical Perine (RB) – Questionable (Foot)
Carolina Panthers vs. Jets Odds and Betting Pick Week 1
WynnBET’s Week 1 NFL odds have the Panthers favored by 4.0 points to get their season off to the best possible start at Bank of America Stadium. Sam Darnold, Robby Anderson, Frankie Luvu, and Pat Elflein will all be looking to make their former team pay, but much will obviously depend on whether the offensive line can cope against a stout Jets front left by defensive tackle tandem Quinnen Williams and Sheldon Rankins.
If they can keep Darold upright, the former USC man can take advantage of a suspect New York secondary and lead the Panthers to a 28-17 victory in Week 1.
