Terrace Marshall Jr. – Carolina Panthers WR

It was a solid if not spectacular outing for second-round pick Terrace Marshall Jr. But considering the hype surrounding the wide receiver during the preseason and the targets that came his way, it would be wrong to suggest he reached some lofty expectations that were possibly unrealistic.

Marshall is still finding his way, and this was his official NFL debut. The Carolina Panthers placed a lot of faith in the LSU product by cutting David Moore, which came after a sensational contribution in training camp and preseason games.

The No. 59 overall selection saw six targets come his way against the New York Jets. This was third-most on the team and three more than veteran wideout Robby Anderson.

Although he brought in three receptions for 26 receiving yards, there was an opportunity for much more. Sam Darnold missed Marshall on a sure-fire touchdown, but the receiver will have been disappointed with the two other lapses.

Much like the situation with Chuba Hubbard, keeping the big picture in mind with Marshall is crucial. A few rookie wideouts taken ahead of him really hit the ground running in Week 1, but he is still a rotational piece on a Panthers offense that’s loaded with gifted playmakers.

Work to do? Perhaps.
