5 ways Panthers QB Sam Darnold can thrive vs. the Saints in Week 2
By Dean Jones
Sam Darnold cannot get complacent
It was a solid start for Sam Darnold in Week 1.
But nothing more than that.
There were some things that need to get better and a complete lack of cohesion across all areas on offense outside of Christian McCaffrey in the second half allowed the New York Jets to get within touching distance of coming back from a 16-point first-half deficit.
Darnold’s work isn’t close to being done. So complacency is simply not an option for the former USC standout.
Week 1 was about two things for Darnold. Getting one over on the team that gave up on him this offseason, and generating some early momentum in front of his home support.
In that sense, it was mission accomplished.
But the New Orleans Saints will be a much tougher proposition and anything like what we saw in the third quarter is going to have some detrimental ramifications.
Nobody will know this more than Darnold. There is a long way to go in the season yet and taking things week to week is the best way for the signal-caller to approach things throughout the campaign.
One step at a time for Darnold. And hopefully, everything will keep progressing in an encouraging fashion.
