5 unsung heroes from the Panthers’ victory vs. the Saints in Week 2
By Dean Jones
Who were the Carolina Panthers players that emerged as unsung heroes during the team’s impressive victory over the New Orleans Saints in Week 2?
Things are looking up for the Carolina Panthers. Their dominant 26-7 win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 2 was a real statement of intent from Matt Rhule’s men, who produced a tremendous performance overall for the second-straight contest to start the 2021 season with a 2-0 record.
There were some problems that emerged – especially in the third quarter once again. However, nobody who left Bank of America Stadium on Sunday will have done so with anything more than pleasure and encouragement.
It’s clear that the Panthers are achieving success collectively. Rhule preached the importance of solid depth prior to the campaign getting underway, which they have plenty of across the board if their early efforts are any indication.
On this subject, here are five unsung heroes who were key to Carolina’s impressive triumph in Week 2.
Unsung Hero No. 1
Cam Erving – Carolina Panthers OT
Credit where it’s due, Cam Erving turned in a much-improved performance in Week 2. There remain some doubts regarding the left tackle and whether he can provide the level of consistency needed over a full season, but outside of one or two moments of struggle, the former first-round pick was solid.
The Saints were missing Marcus Davenport, but Erving still had to deal with Cameron Jordan on occasions and his production afforded quarterback Sam Darnold more time in the pocket to work his magic in the first half.
Hopefully, for the player and the Panthers, this is a sign of things to come for Erving. If the player can build on a positive showing, then the better Carolina’s chances will be moving forward.
