5 unsung heroes from the Panthers’ victory vs. the Saints in Week 2
By Dean Jones
DaQuan Jones – Carolina Panthers DT
Phil Snow has the Carolina Panthers defense playing at an exceptionally high level. They were at the top of their game once again to cause quarterback Jameis Winston an untold amount of problems, something that saw the former No. 1 overall selection regress to the signal-caller that went 30 for 30 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019.
One of the best signings made by the Panthers this offseason was DaQuan Jones. The defensive tackle was a leading figure behind the Tennesee Titans going from also-rans to playoff contenders, and it’s clear that Mike Vrabel’s men are missing his presence on the interior.
Their loss is definitely Carolina’s gain. Jones was limited in practice during the week, but he made a lasting impression against the New Orleans Saints despite others generating more in the way of headlines.
Jones has quickly emerged as an important member of the roster. His experience is something that’s really benefitting the Panthers, with the player’s blossoming partnership with Derrick Brown providing a superb anchor for others to make significant contributions.
Keeping Jones fit and firing on all cylinders is of critical importance to the Panthers. Thankfully, they have the likes of Bravvion Roy and Daviyon Nixon ready to step in when the veteran needs a breather on the sidelines.
